Hi,

Tik tok has an endless stream of content which makes it addictive. But the first step of Being aware and recognising that you are addicted itself means you are determined to get out of this addiction.

  • You need to commit yourself to stop it.It is useless to resist if there is no inner desire to stop. Therefore, the first step is to recognise that you are a victim of this addiction, but don’t let it rule your life. Talk to someone about your decision or write it on a paper and keep it in a visible place. Formal announcement of goals will make decisions more binding and encourage you to keep your word.

  • Limit yourself to strict time limits

Take note of how much time you spend on Tik tok each day and decide to reduce your time gradually as you may have withdrawal symptoms. So it is best to reduce your viewing time slowly. Start with half hour daily and gradually reduce the amount of screen time until you feel the need to watch is gone. keep a timer and once hour is done it will start ringing. There is an app call jomo which can be used for limiting the usage of the app and would block the app for specified period and time as well. You can also do screen time management in tik tok app itself.

  • Like you say you have stopped reading books, don't watch tv or movie, forget eating, don't meet your friends so now why don't you write all this in your to-do list and stick in the area which you often pass around or see. Stick on the board or wall or wardrobe which you would always see. Now whenever you open your wardrobe or pass across the wall just see have you done anything from your to-do list.Tick it if you have done. you should also write all the days in the week near each to do list and see how frequently your doing these things to keep you distracted from tik tok. Keep this for a month so that it will constantly remind you to do it and once these things are included in the list it will become part of your routine.

  • You also need to become aware now of what content do you watch a lot in tik tok, what intrigues you. This will help you to think another way to engage yourself practically for it.

I hope it helps.

While it's totally normal to use social media in moderation, if it's starting to consume your entire day and keeping you from engaging in other activities that are important to you, it could be negatively impacting your day to day life. One possible solution could be to set limits for yourself on how much time you spend on TikTok each day. You might start by setting a timer for an hour or two and then take a break to do something else, like read a book, watch a show, hang out with friends, clean your room, etc

I understand that you're feeling stuck in a pattern of constant TikTok usage, and it's negatively impacting your everyday activities and relationships. It's a common issue in the age of social media, and it can be tough to break the cycle. What in TikTok that appeals to you the most? Find that thing and try to switch focus from TikTok to something else that is healthier and has that bonus you get from watching TikTok.

One way to stop spending all your time on TikTok is to set a limit on the amount of time you spend on the app each day. Try setting an alarm or using an app that tracks your screen time to make sure you're not going over your limit. You could also try setting reminders or to-do lists to keep yourself accountable and stay productive. Additionally, find other activities to replace TikTok, like reading, walking, meditating, or exercising.

omg same! I just wrote here under another post that I struggle to fall asleep because I spent all my day on insta reels and didn't get tired to actually want to sleep. I know the feeling all too well. Let's just all collectively delete the apps that are not useful for us in any way. I mean it can't control is forever....or...can it? I'm kinda actually scared now. I should be sleeping rn but I can't fall asleep, it's such nonsense

@silly goose oh hey! I wrote to you in the comment section for another post and I see you here now! Hi! Haha

To the OP: I have the same struggle. It's tiktok as well. I've deleted it in the past and then downloaded it again the next day. I don't see what can help with this anymore. I have no discipline myself. But you can try deleting it and not reinstalling it the other hour haha

I used to love playing games but now it seems like I don't have the attention span for it. It suck!!

@chaoticfiremaqter thanks for your comment. It’s good to know that I’m not alone in this. I’ve never been much into sports, but your suggestion makes me think maybe I should try to find an activity that can get me moving. What kind of sports did you find enjoyable? Did you start with something small or dive right into it? I feel like I need something that can motivate me the same way TikTok does. Did you face any challenges when you first started? How did you overcome them? I’m hoping to find an activity that can get me out of my room and make me feel more productive. Thanks again for the suggestion!

@ᡴ 𓇼 ᴖ thank you for your response. You’re right, moderation is key, and I’ve definitely lost that balance. Setting a timer seems like a practical approach. Have you tried this method yourself? How effective was it for you? I think I need to start small, maybe with just an hour, and gradually increase my off-screen time. I’ve also been thinking about picking up reading again; do you have any book recommendations? I feel like I need a structured plan to make this work. Your advice to engage in other activities like cleaning and hanging out with friends is really helpful. I’ve neglected these areas for too long. Thanks for the encouragement!

@lauralakin834 thanks for your understanding and insightful comment. You’re right, I need to figure out what it is about TikTok that keeps me hooked. I think it’s the endless stream of content that’s so easily accessible. Do you have any tips on how to identify a healthier alternative that provides the same satisfaction? I used to enjoy creative activities like drawing and writing, but I’ve lost touch with them. Have you ever experienced something similar and found a way to get back into your hobbies? I’m hoping to rediscover my interests and reduce my screen time. Your advice to switch focus to something healthier is definitely something I need to work on. Thanks for your support!

@LOVE thanks for your practical advice. Setting a daily limit on TikTok usage sounds like a good start. Have you tried using screen time tracking apps yourself? If so, which ones would you recommend? I think having reminders and to-do lists could really help me stay accountable. I’ve been neglecting so many activities like reading and exercising. Do you have any favorite books or workout routines that I could try? I’m hoping to replace my TikTok time with more productive activities. Thanks again for your helpful suggestions!
