Can't comment on schizophrenia, but I'd guess energy drinks do a disservice to your neighbor's OCD treatment. They probably contain caffeine that will increase her agitation and anxiety. Working at night isn't a good idea either

hey, my wife's a psychiatrist; she says OCD and schizophrenia have no proven connection. However, each mental issue case is unique, and only a qualified professional will be able to diagnose your neighbor.

If your neighbor realizes that voices in her head aren't real, then it's unlikely schizophrenia, and if she acts like she believes it's real, then it can be. Definitely bring this up with your neighbor and see how she reacts.

Sometimes we all act weirdly, out of tiredness or bad mood. Try talking to your friend about the situations that worry you, but don't sound accusatory, or she might be unsincere with you out of anger. Perhaps it all was a misunderstanding or a prank.

it's a misconception that all people with schizophrenia and complex diagnoses are dangerous. voices and visions can usually be treated with medication. and your neighbor is taking pills, so she is being treated. if you worry she will harm you, she must show signs of aggression, but from your words she's OK most of the time. so maybe you're overthinking it

Hello, I can’t give you any advice about what to do in your situation. In my experience, it’s best to rely on what you see and what intuition tells you, rather than unrelated internet articles. I work with a lot of troubled people, and the majority of them are able to live normal lives, make families and careers. Most fears that our society has towards people with diagnoses like schizophrenia are based on misinformation and exaggerrated hollywood stories. Perhaps you can talk openly with your neighbor about your fears and come to some compromises in your everyday life that will help you calm down. In any case, with regular, proper treatment, all mental issues can be cured and controlled.

I recommend you read the book “The center cannot hold: My Journey Through Madness” by Elyn Saks. In my opinion, it’s one of the best books on the topic. It’s about a woman diagnosed with schizophrenia and how she coped with everything that followed. An incredible example of the power of the human spirit!

I’m afraid no one here will be able to tell you for sure whether your neighbor is showing signs of schizophrenia or if it’s something else. You may latch your door at night and think of other precautions. It ultimately boils down to how bad things get and if you can move out when they do.

It’s not clear from your description: are you friends, or do you live together out of necessity/to cut rent costs? I know too well how important it is when there are those who believe you and who don’t turn away at the first opportunity. If you’re friends with that girl, I’d say she would be greatful if you showed some support and genuine concern.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I decided to wait and see how things progress. Moving out is an option, but I wouldn't want it to come to that. I might ask my bf to move in with me, need to discuss it with my neighbor.
