Damn it. I’m sorry to hear it, Mitchel. I was under the impression you dodged the bullet.
I wish you to find a genuinely better job where you can thrive and where all your talents and skills are valued. You really deserve it.

Perhaps all’s for the better? The work environment sounds really unhealthy for your wellbeing. There should be jobs out there that will accommodate you and will support your needs. Don’t settle for anything less. You’re fighting the good fight and the luck is on your side! 🙏

@Jennifer So I sat down and had a conversation with my manager about everything and we got everything sorted. It alleviated a lot of the distraught feelings I initially experienced but I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll actually continue searching for another job. They said there’s opportunity to receive promotion to the position again, and I asked if I could be retrained for better accommodation which they agreed too, but there’s no definite timeframe for when the position will be open again.
edit: thank you for your support and encouragement though, I do appreciate it!

@thomas I was able to briefly speak with my supervisor about everything and we got it sorted. I was told there’s opportunity to be promoted to the position again but the downside is there’s no definite timeframe for it. I requested to be re-trained for better accommodation and they said they’d gladly do it, but that’s if the position reopens, since it’s now closed.
I already started searching for another job but I’m just going to see what happens. Not in a “sticking it out until it worsens” kind of thing, but just because I’m not in a position to be jumping job to job with me about to undergo serious surgery.
Edit: I definitely appreciate your words of kindness and encouragement, thank you! I think everything will be okay, I’m just a little upset is all. I trust something better will come along eventually and when it does, I’ll accept that opportunity

@Mitchel I guess they lowered your salary as well? Not in a position to give any advice, but I find it indecent that they demoted you and are now backtracking (or rather promising you things) instead of simply restoring you to a position. My guess is, if you want real advancement in career, it'll require a new employer. Anyhow, wishing you the absolute best. The very fact that you can advocate for yourself means you won't stay long in a place that doesn't fit you.
Also, good luck with your surgery!

@thomas they did, and that’s why I’ve decided I am going to start job searching again. I’m just here until I receive surgery. If I find a new employer who’ll be willing to accommodate my circumstances then that’s even better. Appreciate the well wishes though!! Thank you again!

Been there, done that. Employers never play fair, they would rather fire you than deal with "your issues".. which is why I made the decision to switch to freelance and work from home. The pay’s lower, but the benefits outweigh the limitations big time. I’m good at coding, loved it since I was a kiddo, but freelance platforms like Upwork have all kinds of jobs, and I believe most people could find some relevant gigs there. Just in case you decide to explore some other possibilities...

And this is why we need a universal basic income for everyone! I’ve heard that Norway is starting a pilot project for young people under 30 (it’s called Trondheim’s project, if I’m not mistaken). No wonder countries like Norway have the happiest people on the planet. I’m sad to think we’ll never have anything like that in the US :(

@Spookycz6ix I’m actually a freelance content creator when I’m not working with my place of employment, and I prefer it to working for others because it allows me to create my own schedule. Unfortunately I’m not at the level of where I can live comfortably off my freelance income, but someday I will be. Overall I wish covert discrimination was more recognised and properly addressed.

@ForFloomsSake19 I think I’m familiar with what you’re talking about and you’re absolutely right. It’s sad and it sucks. I understand why people move from the US. It’s TRASH.
