Hi,

Stress is the common factor for such anxiety. It release hormone called cortisol which causes us to crave food which are fatty, salty and sugary. Once you eat your anxiety eases and cravings return to normal.

Your overthinking is leading to stress, anxiety. It's because you are vulnerable to negative feelings . If any one says anything negative you feel bad. You give importance to what world says about you. If its negative then immediately you jump to something which stimulates positive emotions ie food in your case.

First we need to work on your overthinking and then on self confidence and overeating. it will take time but if you follow these strategies it will help you in longer run.

Find alternative strategies for over thinking:

See which strategy can work for you and implement that.

  • When such anxiety strikes try drinking water instead of eating.
  • Try to eat something healthy like nuts instead of potato chips or chocolate bar.
  • When you experience anxiety, just sit down and relax. Take deep breath. Try to feel your breath going in through nose and exhaling out through mouth. do that for 10 min. it will calm your mind.
  • Deviate your mind through guided meditation or drawing or art
  • Call anyone whom you are close to
  • Write down a journal every time you feel anxiety. Pen down what are you feeling during the time of anxiety. Physically, mentally what are your feelings. After you calm down just read the journal and see how you can handle situation better next time. this is self realisation and awareness technique where you get mindful of what you are feeling.
  • Go for walk
  • Watch movie or listen a song

For negative thinking :

> Visualise the future

i want you think all the issues which are floating in your head like whether i did good job or how people perceive me etc will it affect in 3,5,10 yrs from now. You need to ask yourself these questions that

  • you doing good job or not will it matter to anyone?
  • If anyone is talking negative about your job will stop you from living . if yes then how ?

Every time you over think start asking questions to your mind why am i worrying about this? what will happen if people think negative about me? what is the end result?

> Circle of faith

I want you to draw a bigger circle and write in that 8 most important people in your life and write it. then within that bigger circle draw a small circle and write who is 5 most important people in your life from the 8 you wrote. Now a draw smaller circle within that and write 3 most important people from the 5 you wrote. so narrow down the names from 8 to 5 then 3. After this see if these are 3 people who matter to you most and are they talking negative about you. if yes then confront to them as you consider them close. If no then forget the rest other's it should not matter to you.

For self confidence :

start writing at least 5 pro's about yourself. elucidate why it is pro. give justification with example like i feel i am helping because i am available for my friends when required. start doing this everyday. repeat out those positive points in your mind. what you think about yourself is what you will reflect to others.

i hope this help. you need any therapy kindly email me. its given in the profile.

I feel for you! I think it's your job. I've had that - when there's a lot of pressure and demands at work, I get anxiety. I struggled at first, and then I changed jobs and it got easier. I'd advise you to do the same.

i have anxiety disorder too and it has been like a enemy of mine for more than 2 years. I went to the psychiatrist but didn’t helped me get off of this.

and finally after two years of suffering I finally managed to overcome this. I mean it is not completely healed but I know how to control it.

1) I suggest you to explore yourself.

2) Think about present.

3) try to relax your body and give an affirmation to yourself saying your body is slowly becoming calm. (This has helped a lot)

4) take medicine on time.

hope this is helpful for you.

When I get anxious, I look for relaxation. Because I realize that I am my own boss. I put on some music, tune in to meditation, and in the course of self-hypnosis, the anxiety goes away. I also start giving myself gifts - I allow myself to rest more, I do some shopping. My mood lifts.... Try to distract yourself from your bad anxious thoughts too.

I, too, "eat" anxiety, just like you. First I worry, and then I eat, eat, eat...And I'm overweight too! Let's fight it together) I decided to start with the thoughts that worry me. If I do something about them, then there will be no anxiety and therefore no overeating.

I used to worry a lot about everything too. When it got in the way of my life, I decided to accept the worst. And accept it. Get kicked out of my job? I'll get a new one. I don't get enough sleep? So what. And life became more peaceful.
