Everyone reacts to antidepressant differently but some symptoms can be common like nausea or headache or fatigue or blurred vision or anxiety or feeling very sleepy or not feeling sleepy. These symptoms may go away after few week when your body just gets used to it. these side effects would improve after weeks of the medication. It is important you still talk to your Psychiatrist about how you feel and certain times they may change the dosage or the medicine or certain cases may even check if you don't have any other issues in the body which is causing headache like antidepressants can interfere with sodium level in the body to cause headache.

For excessive sleepy feeling if you are taking the medication in the morning check with your doctor if you can take it in night.

Take care of your habits too. eat small portion of meals and break into frequent intervals. Try inculcating exercise regime in your daily routine like yoga, meditation, walking etc.

I've been on antidepressants for a while now, and I remember those first few weeks were pretty rough, but don't worry, it's totally normal to feel weird when you first start taking these meds. Your body is just trying to adjust to the new chemicals. The sleepiness and headaches are super common side effects, they usually go away after a few weeks. I know it's tough, but try to hang in there. It took me about a month before I started feeling more like myself again. Make sure you're drinking lots of water and getting enough rest. If the side effects are really bothering you, talk to your doctor about adjusting the dosage. But seriously, don't stress too much about it. It's all part of the process, and it'll get better soon

@garrettcynthia thank you so much for responding! i was starting to freak out a little, thinking maybe something was wrong with me. it's good to know that these weird feelings are normal. i'm trying to stay positive, but man, it's hard when you feel like a zombie all day. i'm worried about falling behind at work because i can barely keep my eyes open. and the headaches are driving me crazy! i've been taking some over-the-counter pain meds, but i'm not sure if that's okay with the antidepressants

@garrettcynthia you're seriously a lifesaver! i'm gonna try that sleep schedule thing. it's hard because right now i can't fall asleep, but other days i feel like i could sleep for days. but i'll give it a shot. green tea sounds good too, i've been avoiding caffeine completely, but maybe a little wouldn't hurt. talking to my boss is scary, but you're right, it might help. i just don't want anyone to think i can't handle my job, ya know? did you ever feel like giving up on the meds? i wonder if it's worth it, but hearing about your experience makes me want to stick it out. thanks for being so supportive, it really means a lot to have someone who understands

@Karlo For the sleepiness, I found that keeping a regular sleep schedule really helped. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. I also started drinking green tea instead of coffee, it gave me a little energy boost without making me jittery. Can you talk to your boss about your situation? Most people are pretty understanding about mental health stuff these days. And yeah, it's probably best to check with your doctor before mixing any meds. They might be able to suggest something that's safe to take with your antidepressants. And don't worry, a week feels like forever now, but it'll pass before you know it

Don't worry! What you're feeling is totally normal

I went through the same thing when I started my meds. For me, it all went away in less than a week, so just be patient. How are you feeling right now?

I remember being super tired all the time too, it was like I couldn't keep my eyes open no matter how hard I tried. And the headaches, ugh, they were annoying but they didn't last long. Just hang in there, okay? Your body is just getting used to the new stuff. It's like when you start a new workout, you feel sore at first but then it gets better

It's awesome that you're taking this step to take care of yourself. Mental health is so important. Let me know how you're doing, I'm here if you need to talk more!

@Regena thanks so much for replying! right now, i'm feeling pretty wiped out and i can't fall asleep. i'm trying to stay positive, but it's hard when i feel so out of it. i haven't talked to my doctor yet about the side effects. i was kinda worried they'd tell me to stop taking the meds and i really want to give this a fair shot. do you think i should call them anyway? it's good to know the tiredness might go away soon. did you do anything special to help with the fatigue? i've been trying to drink more water, but i'm not sure if it's helping. also, did you notice any changes in your appetite? i feel like i'm not as hungry as usual

@Regena yep, being outside helps, but it's been a while since i've gone for a long walk, thanks for the reminder and for all the advice!

@Karlo Yes, absolutely call your doctor! They won't tell you to stop the meds just because of some side effects, promise. They might actually have some great advice to help you through this

When I was dealing with the fatigue, I found that short walks helped a bit. Just getting outside for like 10 minutes seemed to wake me up a little

Appetite changes, yep, I had that too. I wasn't hungry at all for the first week or so. It's normal, but make sure you're still eating regular meals even if you don't feel super hungry. Your body needs the energy to adjust. Have you tried setting alarms for meals? That helped me remember to eat

@Karlo I have been taking meds to help me deal with my depression for like seven months now. The I remember the first few months how difficult they were I slept like alot anywhere anytime I just felt sleepy it was the first time I have had where I didn't struggle to fall asleep. The first week was a rollercoaster I would just wake up feeling this weird super crazy feeling of happiness and joy my friend were convinced I was high pretty much . But something I found crazy was I could feel the meds wearing off. It's like all of a sudden this overwhelming sadness would start engulfing me and to be honest it was Abit much. But it took a while for me to get used to it and honestly even now am still trying to figure it out but it's much easier now. And DON'T TAKE THEM WITH ALCOHOL!!! Trust me thats a road you don't want to go through 😂😂😅

It's going to take a while to start feeling let's say somewhat normal I guess but if you feel like they are not working for please do talk to you psychiatrist. I have actually had to change my prescription twice so don't worry... All will be well . Remember meds alone are not enough try some therapy talk to someone it can be a friend, family or some really close to you and I know how that my be difficult it took me a long time before I was ready to talk to someone so take your time . We are all here to support you.

@GideonAbulcem thank you so much !! your description of the first few months sounds a lot like what i'm going through right now. i appreciate your advice about talking to my doctor if things don't improve. i'll definitely keep that in mind. and thanks for the heads up about alcohol, i'll make sure to avoid that combination! i actually am seeing a therapist. i have sessions once every two weeks because that's all i can afford right now, but even that is helping. i'm trying to be patient with the whole process and give it some time. thank you again for reaching out! i feel so much more hopeful now!

Hey! I just wanted to say that it's totally normal to feel a bit off when you first start taking antidepressants. Your body is adjusting to the new medication, it can take some time to settle in. The sleepiness and headaches you're experiencing are pretty common side effects, especially in the beginning. It's great that you're under a doctor's care, and they'll be able to guide you through this process. How are you feeling now? Has anything changed since you first posted?

@Raymond Walker hi! thanks so much for your response! i'm feeling a bit better now, but the sleepiness is still pretty intense. i've been trying to adjust my sleep schedule to accommodate it, but it's been challenging. the headaches have eased up a bit, which is a relief. i'm trying to stay positive. i'm worried though about how it might affect my work and daily life

@Raymond Walker i've been trying to stick to a sleep schedule, but it's been tough with the fatigue. i'll definitely talk to my doctor about possibly changing when i take the meds. as for positive changes, it's hard to say. some days i feel like maybe my mood is a bit better, but other days i feel just as down as before. is it normal for it to be this up and down? i'm trying to be patient, but it's frustrating not knowing if the medication is really working or not

@Karlo I'm glad that you're feeling a bit better! It's great that the headaches are easing up. Fatigue can be tough to manage, but there are a few things you can try. Try to stick to a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends. This can help regulate your body's internal clock. Consider talking to your doctor about adjusting the timing of when you take your medication. Sometimes taking it at night instead of in the morning can help with daytime drowsiness.

Regular exercise, even if it's just a short walk, can actually help boost your energy levels. It might seem counterintuitive when you're feeling tired, but it can make a big difference. Have you noticed any positive changes in your mood or thought patterns since starting the medication?

@Karlo It's normal for your mood to fluctuate, especially in the early stages of taking antidepressants. Your brain is adjusting to the new chemical balance, and it can take some time for things to even out. Be patient with yourself and the process. It's great that you're noticing some better days – that's a positive sign!
